 It's been just over a year since my last blog post, and boy, has it been quite a year!

How "quite" you ask?

Well, let me tell you, it has been QUITE A GOOD YEAR!

Right now I am listening to (and watching now and then) Caravan to Midnight with John B Wells on Rumble.

I have no plan or schematic diagram with which to plot a course for meaningful discourse in this present post. So, relax. The world is about to change. Bigly.

Yes, I am a "conspiracy theorist," if you want to know. 

But I know that I am not in the minority, online or otherwise.

ANNUAL CHECK-IN

 Happy New Year (for what it's worth)!

I just wanted to check in on my blog and see how things were looking. As well as can be expected (which is about how well they looked last time). With that being said...

I got up today feeling content. 

I was glad (and still am happy) for my circumstances, although I usually long for a wife right about now. 

Nevertheless, I have begun this post in earnest of my blessed assurance that Jesus is mine. I suppose these material blessings are not worthy to be compared to my spiritual blessings in heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3), which I read about in today's devotional readings.

But I digress... Not really. 

May you find peace and rest in Christ today! Amen.

MORE BOOKS THAN I HAVE TIME -- AND ATTENTION -- TO READ

 

Even after getting rid of several boxes full of books, I still think, "I have too many books!"

I occasionally find time -- and attention span -- to enjoy (or start to enjoy) "a good book." Needless to say, King Solomon was right when he said, "Of making many books THERE IS NO END, and much study is wearisome to the flesh.."(Ecclesiastes 12:12 NKJV emphasis mine)

Which brings me to my question: Why on Earth did I buy/acquire all these books anyway?

Well, here is my answer: Because I have A.D.B.D. (Always Distracted By Diversions)! Perhaps these were valid diversions from my mundane lifestyle. Perhaps they were springboards for deeper thought experiments and personal growth.

Or I was just delusional enough to believe I would actually finish reading these books! Books are like friends. They call you when you need them most. And they are always available.

Finally, I am rediscovering my love for these books that I have purchased or received freely over these many years. It is great to feel "smart" once again! Indeed.

EIGHTEEN CENTURIES LATER...

In our day and age, when a thousand different heresies are ready to steal our loyalties to the Gospel that was "once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 1:3), it is incumbent upon Christians of all ages to return to the FUNDAMENTALS OF THE FAITH that rescued us from a spiritually dead life and eventual, eternal death!

It is my joy to return to that GOSPEL once again, because there are many voices from many channels on the Internet, always vying for our affection and intellectual ascension to that which is temporary at best, and condemnation-worthy at worst!

Probably in answer to the prayers of me and the people who know (and presumably love) me, YHWH God has seen fit to renew my desire to escape from these intellectual and spiritual traps that are set before me and all who follow Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior in truth! 

This may be just a passing desire of mine to pursue a little online research into this fellow named Irenaeus -- which of course will involve Wikipedia.

AND ONE MORE THING

Finally, a shameless plug for Scottsdale Bible Church (my home church), and its newly-minted satellite campus, North Chapel Bible Church in Fountain Hills. I am simultaneously blogging here and listening to a message series called "Acts: We're On a Mission From God" from the latter on Podbean (on another device).

 Even though my Internet connection is currently suffering from some sort of overload and resultant latency, I will nevertheless soldier on...

As retired United States Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn once said, "We have an army of digital soldiers," "patriotic social media warriors" who will go to the mat (and the keyboard/touchscreen) with defending our freedoms and God-given rights to self-government (i.e., "of the people, by the people, and for the people").

With that said, I still have not finalized my choice of topic for this blog post. Perhaps it will be a number of things I will link to here on one of my Pages to advance the cause of information sharing.

AN UPDATE TO MY "S.T.E.M." PAGE!

 In the interest of blogging for the sake of blogging, let me post a little (or a lot) about engineering -- specifically, electrical and electronics engineering. Here is a link to my "S.T.E.M." page, which I mentioned in today's post title. 

This brings me to the natural question, why am I (and why have I been) thinking about becoming an engineer? An electronics engineer? Some midlife crisis? Middle-aged craziness? End-of-life issues? Who knows? God knows!

WHY CHRISTIANS OUGHT TO BLOG

Well, in the interest of my latest motivation, which is reading Puritan literature, I felt led to post about the activity of reading, particularly the Reformed Christian doctrines of grace.

So, therefore, I am posting a link to the Banner of Truth here, mainly because of their latest article's headline: "Why Christians Must Be Readers."

 OK... Now for my confession. I have not read the above-linked article in its entirety!

I have, however, read enough of the highlights, and some paragraphs, to know it was exactly what I was thinking about: i.e., the importance and necessity for thinking Christians to strengthen and build up themselves in their most holy faith by feeding their eyes/ears/minds/hearts/souls with sound doctrine, as it was expounded by those spiritual giants whom God has ordained to be our predecessors.

Yes, as a matter of fact, that was one sentence!

Anyhow, I hope you are now able to think about thinking God's thoughts after Him by reading literature that has been universally recognized in theological, scholarly circles as having the weight and merit of divine approval when seriously compared with Holy Writ!

Wow! You now have those resources at your disposal. Start digging! Heavenly manna awaits your shovel and wheelbarrow...

SOMETHING TO BLOG ABOUT

How about a blog post about nothing?

That modus operandi was already attempted successfully by one Jerry Seinfeld of prime time sitcom (and rerun) fame. Look it up. But I digress.

The purpose of said blog post is primarily to drive that annoying (previous) post from eons past -- i.e., October 30 downward, so that I will not have to keep seeing it! How about you? Are you as motivated as I am to keep going?

I thought so.

Now, with that said (what did I say, anyway?), allow me to mention here the supreme importance of the knowledge of God (Romans 11:33). As I am typing right now, RefNet is playing in another tab (you tech-savvy geniuses will know what I mean by that). An online Christian resource such as this one is indispensible to any believer's spiritual health! Go there...

Finally, how about a nice, big screenshot? Yes, that's the ticket.

There... My aforementioned purpose has been fulfilled (see paragraph three above).

HOW I SOLVED THE BRAVE WEB BROWSER (NOT OPENING IN LINUX MINT) PROBLEM AND FOUND INNER PEACE !!!

Today, I am sharing a huge SOLUTION to an annoying issue with the new Brave browser not opening in Linux Mint (for example). This article assumes you have successfully installed Brave on your system and cannot open the fool thing to save your life! You've tried EVERYTHING those forums recommended and...

So, without further ado, here is my step-by-step process:

1. OPEN a Nemo file system explorer window.




2. SEARCH for "chrome-sandbox."

3. RIGHT-CLICK the result (highlighted above) which is located in the /home/peter/PlayOnLinux's virtual drives/Windows/dosdevices/z:/opt/google/chrome folder. This contains the all-important /opt/google/chrome folder. On my system, this was buried inside a virtual drive, which may or may not be the case in your situation. Also, please disregard those other search results in the graphic, as they were created by me later.

4. From the context menu, choose "Open containing folder."

5. RIGHT-CLICK on any blank space inside the new Nemo window to open a context menu, and choose "Open as Root." This will elevate your privileges and enable you to copy this program (shown below) to its destination folder.



4. COPY the chrome-sandbox icon (shown above) with Ctrl+C or right-click and copy.

5. OPEN a new Nemo window and search for Brave. Find the result for "brave" under the Program type (see below) and RIGHT-CLICK it. This will bring up a context menu, where you will choose "Open containing folder."

6. RIGHT-CLICK on any blank space inside the new Nemo window to open a context menu, and choose "Open as Root." This will enable you to PASTE the chrome-sandbox program you just copied into the /usr/lib/brave folder.

7. Open the Brave browser. 

Enjoy. Repeat... Let me know if this works !!! Thanks.
